Floating anterior lens capsule: an unusual case of true exfoliation.

چکیده

A rare case of delamination and replication of the anterior lens capsule into prominent floating folds in the anterior chamber approximately 55 years after a penetrating injury to the eye and anterior lens capsule is reported. Classically, true exfoliation of the anterior lens capsule has been reported in individuals who have been exposed to intense heat over a prolonged period. However, more recently cases of true exfoliation of the anterior lens capsule have been reported in patients who have not been occupationally exposed to high temperatures and associated infrared radiation. A brief review of the literature concerning true exfoliation of the lens capsule in the absence of intense heat exposure is included. Associations with trauma, inflammation, advanced age, hyperopia, glaucoma, and capsular protein abnormality have been reported, but the pathogenesis of this rare clinical finding remains conjectural.

Multiple Layers Lens Capsule True Exfoliation in Patient with Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma

INTRODUCTION True exfoliation of lens capsule is a relatively rare disorder that has a thin, fluttering membrane in the anterior chamber, mainly located in the pupil area, which is believed to have split from the anterior lens capsule. CASE REPORT The authors present here a patient with true exfoliation and primary angle closure glaucoma in both eyes, the ultrastructure of one eye revealed th...

Spontaneous idiopathic true exfoliation of the anterior lens capsule during capsulorhexis.

We report a unique case of spontaneous per-operative idiopathic development of true exfoliation of the anterior lens capsule during capsulorhexis. A 45 year old female who underwent phacoemulsification for a cataract in the left eye, developed a partial split (the double ring sign) and eventual complete separation of the superficial lamina of the lens capsule during capsulorhexis. Radial tears ...

True exfoliation of the lens capsule.

True exfoliation or lamellar delamination of the lens capsule is a rare disorder in which the lens capsule is thickened and the superficial portion of the lens capsule splits from the deeper layer and extends into the anterior chamber. The pathogenesis of this disorder is not clear, but intense infrared radiation has been thought to be the main causative factor. We describe a patient with a his...

Double-ring and double-layer sign of the anterior lens capsule during cataract surgery.

BACKGROUND Splitting of the lens capsule with a double-ring contour during continuous curvilinear capsulorrhexis has not often been reported. CASE An 86-year-old woman underwent phacoemulsification cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation in the right eye. Preoperatively, the anterior lens capsule appeared normal. OBSERVATIONS A double-ring sign was observed during capsulorrhe...

Two cases of true exfoliation of the lens capsule after cataract surgery.

True exfoliation of the lens capsule is known to be associated with glassblower's cataract, which is caused by extended exposure to excessive heat. Furthermore, inflammation and trauma are also considered to be predisposing factors. We report two cases of true exfoliation that were confirmed after cataract surgery. Neither patient exhibited true exfoliation before cataract surgery. In addition,...
